The Ultimate Reality

Vedanta is the philosophical climax of the Vedas. This retreat is an intellectual and spiritual journey into Jnana Yoga (the yoga of knowledge). Through the study of sacred texts, self-inquiry, and silent contemplation, we systematically dismantle the illusion of separation and realize the ultimate reality: Aham Brahmasmi (I am Brahman).

What's Included:

6 Nights of quiet, contemplative accommodation.
3 Sattvic, vegetarian meals daily to support a clear mind.
Daily discourses (Satsang) on the Upanishads and Gita.
Guided self-inquiry (Atma Vichara) meditation sessions.
Interactive Q&A sessions with experienced Vedanta scholars.
Group transfer from the local airport/station.

Quick Jump

Advaita Vedanta teaches that the multiplicity of the universe is an illusion (Maya). Beneath the changing forms of the world, there is only one unchanging reality: Brahman. Furthermore, this universal consciousness is identical to your own innermost Self (Atman).

Suffering arises from ignorance (Avidya)—the mistaken belief that we are separate, limited physical bodies. By removing this ignorance through knowledge and inquiry, we do not "achieve" enlightenment; we simply recognize the freedom that has always been our true nature.

This retreat utilizes the intellect to transcend the intellect. The path of knowledge requires a sharp, focused mind:

Atma Vichara (Self-Inquiry)

Popularized by Ramana Maharshi, this is the relentless internal questioning of "Who am I?" By continually tracing the 'I-thought' back to its source, the ego dissolves into pure awareness.

Neti Neti (Not This, Not This)

An analytical meditation technique of negation. By systematically observing that you are not your body, not your mind, and not your emotions, you arrive at the undeniable presence of the Observer.

Satsang (Gathering in Truth)

The cornerstone of Vedanta is the transmission of knowledge from teacher to student. Daily Satsang involves listening to the scriptures (Sravana), reflecting upon them to remove doubts (Manana), and deeply assimilating the truth through meditation (Nididhyasana).

  • Direct study of the Upanishads and texts like Ashtavakra Gita.
  • Open Q&A to clear intellectual roadblocks on the path.
Ancient Texts and Study

Vedanta is not for the faint of heart. It requires the courage to question everything you believe yourself to be.

  • Mental Readiness: Come with a sharp, inquiring mind. You are encouraged to ask difficult questions, debate, and bring your doubts to the surface so they can be resolved by the teachings.
  • Purity of Mind (Sattva): A turbulent mind cannot grasp subtle truths. The environment, diet, and schedule are specifically designed to cultivate 'Sattva'—a state of clarity, calmness, and light.
Morning

Silence & Sravana

Begin with silent meditation and Vedic chanting, followed by the primary morning discourse (Sravana) on a selected Upanishad.

Afternoon

Reflection & Inquiry

Personal time for Manana (reflection), journaling, and guided Atma Vichara (Self-Inquiry) sessions to turn knowledge into direct experience.

Evening

Satsang & Integration

Interactive Q&A sessions to dismantle intellectual doubts, concluding with devotional singing (Bhakti) to balance the intellect with the heart.

Each retreat session focuses deeply on a specific text. You will receive translated materials and profound commentary on works such as Adi Shankara's Vivekachudamani (Crest-Jewel of Discrimination), the Mandukya Upanishad, or the teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi.
