Vipassana is one of India's most ancient techniques of meditation. This rigorous 10-day residential course provides a deep dive into the mind-body connection. By maintaining complete silence and focusing purely on physical sensations with equanimity, you will uproot deep mental conditioning and experience true liberation from suffering.

Quick Jump

Vipassana is not an intellectual exercise, nor is it an escape from reality. It is a surgical operation on the mind. By observing the objective reality of your own bodily sensations without reacting to them, you learn to dismantle the habit patterns of craving and aversion.

This technique is universal and non-sectarian. It is a practical method to achieve peace of mind and to lead a happy, useful life. It requires hard work, determination, and a willingness to follow the instructions exactly as given.

The 10-day retreat is divided into three distinct phases of mental training:

Sila & Anapana

The first 3 days are spent observing the natural, uncontrolled breath passing through the nostrils. This sharpens the mind and concentrates it to the degree necessary for deeper observation.

Vipassana

On day 4, the Vipassana technique is introduced. You will learn to systematically scan your entire body, objectively observing sensations (pain, heat, tingling) while developing profound equanimity.

Noble Silence

To facilitate this deep inward journey, students must observe Noble Silence from the start of the course until the morning of the last full day. This means silence of body, speech, and mind.

  • No talking, sign language, or eye contact with fellow students.
  • Removes external distractions, forcing you to face your own mind.
Meditation Posture

A Vipassana retreat is demanding. You are making a serious commitment to stay the full 10 days and follow the rules strictly.

  • Zero Distractions: All cell phones, reading materials, journals, pens, and musical instruments must be deposited with management upon arrival. There is no reading, writing, or yoga allowed.
  • Mental Readiness: You will sit in meditation for approximately 10 hours a day. Expect physical discomfort and mental agitation. Your success depends on your persistence and patience.
Morning

Early Awakening

The morning gong sounds at 4:00 AM. Meditate from 4:30 to 6:30 AM, followed by breakfast and a brief rest before the morning group sitting in the Dhamma Hall.

Afternoon

Deep Practice

Lunch is served at 11:00 AM (the last full meal of the day). The afternoon consists of alternating group sittings in the hall and individual practice in your room or cell.

Evening

Discourse & Rest

A light tea and fruit at 5:00 PM. A mandatory video discourse at 7:00 PM explains the theory behind the practice, followed by a final meditation before retiring at 9:30 PM.

Through the evening discourses, you will gain an experiential understanding of the laws of nature (Dhamma). The core teachings revolve around the three marks of existence: Anicca (impermanence), Dukkha (unsatisfactoriness), and Anatta (non-self).
